Oliver “Ollie” Overton

Oliver “Ollie” Overton is a lifelong resident of Alexandria and represents District F which includes a portion of the City of Alexandria and Town of Lecompte. Mr. Overton is also a Democrat.

 

He is a graduate of Peabody High School and the Labor Management Training Teamster Education Department at the University of Arkansas.  He is also a graduate of the Labor Management Education Department of Roadway Express and of the George Meany School of Labor.

 

Ollie retired from Roadway Express Freight Line, Inc. where he worked for 34 years, as a driver, sales representative, and safety and defensive driving instructor.

 

Ollie was Past President of the Police Jury in 2012 and Vice President in 2019 and 2020.   Ollie is currently the Chairman of the Personnel, Elections, Insurance and Legal Committee, and also serves on the Finance Committee; Public Works, Watershed and Agricultural Affairs Committee; Workforce Development and Grants Committee; Tourism and Economic Planning and Development Committee; Courthouse, Coliseum and Facilities Committee; Parochial Board Liaison and Municipal Liaison Committee; and Ambulance, Fire, Health and Homeland Security Committee of the Rapides Parish Police Jury.

 

He is also a member of the National Association of Black County Officials (NABCO), and the National Association of County Officials (NACo) where he serves on the Military and Veteran Affairs Committee.

 

Ollie is a member of Acme Lodge No. 43; a member of Teamsters, Joint Council #80; and a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamster’s Local #568, where he served three terms as President.

 

He was a past member of Central Louisiana Regional Infrastructure Beltway Commission., and previously served on the Community, Economic and Workforce Development Steering Committee for the National Association of County Officials.  He has served on the Board of Directors for Cenla Community Action Committee and is a former member of the Magnolia State Peace Officer Association.

 

Ollie is married to Marie M. Overton, and they have four children, Angela, Aasha (Aaj), Ayesha (Andi) and Brenton.
